Elementor 3.0 FAQ

Elementor 3.0 is a major version and includes some substantial infrastructure changes.

Before you upgrade to v3.0 (currently Elementor Core v3.0.11 and Elementor Pro v3.0.5), please make sure you backup your site, and if you’re using any 3rd party addon for Elementor, make sure it has compatibility for Elementor 3.0. Check the 3rd party addon’s changelog for any notes that indicate they’ve made it compatible or speak with the addon’s support channel if uncertain.

Q: What are the Free version features?

Site Settings, Global Fonts and Colors, as well as performance improvements, are all free features. For the full list, check out our changelog for the Free version.

Q: What are the Pro version features?

There are several improvements beyond the Theme Builder, which are Pro-only features, check out our latest Pro changelog.

Q: Where can I find more information about the new Theme Builder?

The new Theme Builder documents and many others can be found on our Docs website.

Q: What is the difference between Theme Style and Global Colors?

Theme Style sets fallback style definitions for HTML tags like <H1>, <body>, <label> and so on. They are not Elementor-specific, but as general as possible. This is the baseline setting for your sites, that comes into play only as a fallback if no definitions were set.

Global Colors is another style layer that sits on top of the Theme Style. It provides the building blocks for your site design. Use it in the appropriate places, and you will be on your way to have a smart way to manage your colors and build your design system (the same is true for every Global Style feature, including Global Typography).

Q: What changed in v3.0 regarding global options for fonts?

In Elementor 3.0 we changed the way globals work. You can now implement global fonts on any text element. This way you know how changes to the global fonts will impact every text element on your site.

Until now, default fonts only included 2 controls (font family and font-weight). Now, all of the typography settings have global controls.

Q: What is DOM?

When a web page is loaded, the browser creates a Document Object Model of the page. This is the DOM. We need it because, without it, the browser won’t know how to organize the page and present it to you.

Q: Is it safe to update?

Yes, Elementor 3.0 is a major version and includes some substantial infrastructure changes. Before you upgrade to v3.0 (Elementor Core v3.0.11 and Elementor Pro v3.0.5), please make sure you backup your site, and if you’re using any 3rd party addon for Elementor, make sure it has compatibility for Elementor 3.0. Q: I can’t update typography/lost my previous typography settings

We added an option to re-migrate Global Colors and Fonts from earlier Elementor versions. To see it go to Elementor > Tools > Version Control > Rerun Update Script, and click Migrate to V3. This button re-migrates the data from the old site – and deletes the new stored values. Please note that this process will revert all changes made to Global Colors and Fonts since upgrading to v3.x.

If you cannot update the typography or lose previous typography settings, please try regenerating the CSS by going to Elementor > Tools > Regenerate CSS.
